Resin... good

Back to blogging after a 9 month hiatus. Busy with work... Playing mostly Fantasy, Malifaux, L5R CCG during these period.

with the release of 40k 6th edition, the gaming group is back to playing 40k. Had my first game last week against jaeroler IG with my dark eldar. I think we played the night fight rule wrongly (night fight for whole game) and my army was hiding in the cover of darkness shooting the grunts easily with night version. won the game (crusade) 7-5, if we had played the night fight rule properly I could have lost, even tabled as the night fight cover save really help my army.

Anyway with the impending release of new chaos marine codex (my first 40k army) I can go back to playing my favourite army.

With some spare cash I decided to buy something from forge world that I always wanted for many years.
Chaos Warhound 2810

The loot!
chaos warhound, hell blade, decimator, and their weapons. Recent forge world order also came with a horus heresy  pin badge.

Buying direct & Bargain hunting

Found a local online book store which started recently. Call NOQ Store http://www.noqstore.asia/ it is a online local book store based in SG. With delivery charges of S$5 for any amount of books and cheaper than retail price, its my latest place to get all warhammer fluff. The books are even cheaper than buying from Maelstrom. They have a membership system where you can get more discount but comes with a fee. Worth it if you buy alot of first hand books.

Bought 2 books during the store promotion where they have free delivery for a week. 1st book was the new Nagash Immortal for S$9.50 with tax which is around £4.70, almost 50% cheaper than the actual retail. The 2nd book was Gotrek & Felix 2nd omnibus for S$15+ (£7.50) slightly cheaper than retail. These 2 will last me for awhile as I still have HH: Age of darkness, HH: Battle for Abyss :( , Grey seer Thanquol, Vampire wars & Gotrek & Felix 1st omnibus to read.

Below is my 2nd direct order from UKGW online store, and YES they do shipped overseas even though they block UK retailers selling their product from doing it...

I have some gaming buddies that can't quit the GW plastic/resin crack addiction lol. I'm writing a brief guide on buying from UKGW direct online store. Click the link below

Impulse buys and two GK games

Just received my GKs from Wayland Games yesterday.  Had a brief look through the codex and Jaeroler wanted a game the following day to test his new IG list. Beardy One came over also to test his fully painted BA list/army he bringing to a local tournament.

Familiar box with all the tape :)

2 GKSS, 1 GKT, Codex, Stern, Kaldor and Dreadknight

The plastic GK terminators are superb, should have bought more during Wayland free shipping period... but lack of $$$ got in the way...

1st game was against Beardy One BA 1750.

My GK list
Bro captain Stern (for old time sake)
GK GM, orbital strike

10*Purifier, 4* psycannon, 6*halberd, Rhino
Vindicare assassin

5*Terminators, 1*hammer, 4*halberd, master crafted
10*GKSS, rhino
5*GKSS, psycannon

dreadnought, 2*TL autocannon, psybolt
Nemesis DK, Greatsword

Mission: Annihilation
Deployment: Spearhead
Grand strategy: counter atk on 10SS (forgotten about it during the game)

Highlights and thoughts of Game
-GM orbital strike missed most of the time, was on target twice, killing some tactical marines and panic them off table. GM also beat off a weaken DOA assault marines + priest.
-Stern lead by example and took some power weps wounds and survived using strands of fate.
-Purifiers were freaking amazing, blowing transports left and right with mass psycannons and slaughter marines that came out. Whole game they were just shooting psycannons and storm bolters.
-Bad placement and forgetting vindicare can infiltrate... assassin spend most of the time getting into position to shoot stuffs. Assassin was flamed to death by DS BA terminators.
-Terminators were nuts!, with halberds even getting charged by 10 Death coy they won combat and eventually wiped out the death coy.
-Strike Squads were not bad, I'm still not really sure what to use them for... They were deadly in close combat (force weps) and could hold their own against BA assault marines with priest charge and still win, but need support if combat drag on as their numbers dwindle. Their warp quake also discourage and damage deepstrikers which can surprise you from places least expected.
-psyfle dreadnought was average in this game, as most transports was gone, shooting at terminators and marines not really effective.
-Nemesis DK deepstrike into the BA lines in turn 2 (forgetting I have psychic communion), attracted tons of firepower and promptly dead before the rest of my army can reach the BA line. Feel that DK should be given shooty weapons and be a defensive firing platform.

GK won 8:6 KP. (Game end on turn 5)

I think dice rolls won me this game. I was rolling sixes left and right, been awhile since I see such good rolls. I think Beardy One also made mistakes of charging things he shouldn't charged like my terminators, GM, full strength SS. Future games against him would be tougher since he would know what to avoid. Funny thing is when getting psychic hooded by BA my rolls was abysmal. BA stopped like 99% of all GK psychic powers.

Next game was against Jaeroler IG list also at 1750. Using the same GK list.

Mission: Seize gnd (3 objectives)
Deployment: Pitched battle
Grand strategy: 3 units can claim (Dreadnought, DK, purifiers)

Highlights and thoughts of Game
-GM only managed to orbital strike once which missed (as usual...) and ate a lascannon on IG turn 1.
-Stern took a melta wound, even strands of fate couldnt save him, dying instantly.
-Assassin fluffed lots of shots, only destroying 2 of a colossus weapons whole game and getting lascannon in the face.
-Purifiers provided fire support in the centre and pop 3-4 chimeras, preventing the melta vets from rushing GK objective.
-Terminators again performed brilliantly! Killed  1-2? (cant remember) 10men infantry squad, platoon command squad, taking tons of melta guns shots. A lone terminator justicar even chased off 2 squads of 10 melta vets with multi combat, preventing the IG troops from "move move move" into GK objective.
-Strike squad nv did much in this game... 1 SS was tank shocked off a vital GK objective... causing me a draw.
-psyfle dreadnought perform average again, shaking a Leman russ, wrecking a chimera, killing heavy team and weapon destroying a chimera which tank shocked a SS off GK objective.
-Nemesis DK came in from reserve on turn 5 due to some officer of fleet IG thing (forgetting I can cast psychic communion to let it come in early...) it move 6" and run 1"... to centre GK objective which no 1 was claiming (terminators beat off melta vets). It was 1" short  of claiming (grand strategy)  GK objective.

IG won 1:0 objective (Game end on turn 5)

I BLAME THE DICE!!! for this lost hahaha. The psyfle dreadnought managed only 2 pent on the tank shocking chimera, shaking and destroying 1 wep. The SS guarding the 1st GK objective also manage a pent on the chimera and destroyed its 2nd wep... and the SS promptly failed their LD test on 11 fleeing from tank shock... The nemesis DK ran 1"... and was 1" short (4" away) of claiming 2nd GK objective which will draw the game...
IF the dreadnought had destroyed the chimera, the 5 buggers (HQ) inside may fail their pinning and get pinned and will get shot to bits by my SS, preserving/claiming 1st GK objective.  IF the nemesis DK had run 2" I would also claim the 2nd GK objective effectively winning the game hahaha

Hobby purchases

Its that time again, not miniatures though... just hobby related stuffs.

Trying out a flat black primer slightly more expensive than the "red fox" ones I always buy, and daler rowney budget brushes. Contain a 10/0 brush for edge highlights, not sure if they are the ones recommended by Skanwy over at Ward save.

Went to Daiso and bought some cheap terrain materials, 4 pieces of mdf for $2 and 28 pieces of round, 3 pieces of rectangle plastic grid for fences and flooring. Total = $6. Could not find the type of clay I saw at another Daiso...

Reinforcements have arrived

Skaven magic cards, Ikit claw and doom-flayer blisters. Micro-art chariot base to be used with the HPA or "the cock" (gaming grp  joke) warp lightning cannon.

Behind is the Skaven Uniforms and Heraldry book, browse through the book, lots of colours samples to paint skaven. Excellent.
You guys are DEAD!!! once I field this hohoho.

Should I continue painting the yellow helmets or this killing machine, decisions decisions decisions...

开门放狗 + plastic crack

Received this recently, waiting eagerly for it after reading the 1st part "A thousand sons". Read 20%  and loving it. Dan Abnett rocks! LOL.

The smaller tower from the recent released fantasy terrain range. Cheaper and in ruins, perfect for both 40k and fantasy. Plastic helions, I cannot resist!

Merry Christmas hehehe

Kind of late greeting here :)  Received my order from Darksphere just in time for Christmas.

Always wanted a skyshield

Played my 1st  40k game today against Krom after a 5 month hiatus. Using my BA against  Krom 5th edition Dark eldar. We rolled spear-head: annihilation, game end on turn 7 with Dark Eldar winning 14 : 9 KP.

After game thoughts
Very interesting game, 5th edition Dark Eldar allow lots of variety for different style of play. Beastmasters are the sleeper unit in the codex. IMO most competitive DE list will include them. In the FA slot and very cheap for huge amount of wounds. Rending and good wound allocation, they can take out marines with ease and even survive ID shots/attacks.

Hungry Ratman + S&M elves??

A month without an update here lololol. Blog is still alive. Had been playing 8th edition WH fantasy during the period of absence. Using my ultimate proxy skaven army (dice + movement tray + empty bases)  against the pansy HE and Ogres mostly.

Conclusion from the games:
Steadfast rocks! Clanrats took a head on collusion charge from a beefed up ogre bulls unit with butcher thrown in and manage to hold combat! Not once had my clanrats hold combat when charged by a "speeding train" (ogre charge) in 7th edition. Parry also did wonders for the clanrats.

Vermin lord was extremely disappointing for its point cost. It was cut down by 6 white lions in 1 round of CC and electrocuted by my doom wheel in another game (lol). Never taking it again... maybe for points filler if playing larger games.

Thats all for fantasy, now onto 40k! Got my Dark Eldar 5th edition codex!  The new plastic dark eldar are absolutely stunning. GW plastic miniatures are really top-notched. Just when I thought the new death company and sanguinary guard were beautiful, GW outperformed themselves again with the new DE plastics

New purchases part 2.33441323

Maelstrom games recently gave 17.5% discount for their web orders and I could not resist the temptation.  Razorback and 2nd box of daemonettes were not in photo.

Next purchase should be the island of blood fantasy box set...

NO PITY NO REMORSE NO FEAR!

WOOT! CAPS FTW lol... After getting influence by Skanwy over at the ward save, I decided to start a Black Templar army too LOL. Fanatical power armour zealots oh yes!

I have enough marines to build both  BA and BT armies,  but I dont have enough vehicles for both... unless I buy more vehicles lol... (red razorback in a BT army looks wrong) Anyway will decide the colours of the vehicles later, while I assemble the marines 1st.

Here is the LE Emperor Champion I won in Ebay and just received it today.

I'm back!!

After a month of no updates from me. I'm back with a vengeance. hehehe

Stuffs that arrived in April.

All my spezze mehrine                                Part of  Beardy Ones' stuffs

All my stuffs are to be built into BA. Starting my 1st Spezze mehrine army, will take me 1-2 months to build them.
For Beardy One I think he is painting his own colour scheme "spartan marines" and using his marines for both BA and SM codex.

Till then, signing off.

Jumping into DE

Not much update this month...

Following my comp MB dying, my graphic card (8800GTS) decided to die as well. It died at the right time also... 1mth after the 2yrs warranty ended (nice timing)... without warranty it became a very expensive piece of paper weight (cost me S$425, 2yrs ago). Bought a cheapo ATI 4350 for $58 to tide me over until I got cash to get a decent graphic card.

Jumping into DE

I always like armies that can move very fast, have bits of everything -shooting/assault and I prefer very offensive armies. Single out Dark eldar/eldar/nids.
Wanted to go with eldar at 1st but after calculating the $$$ cost, it was even more expensive than expanding my current ork army. Nids was slighty less expensive as compared to eldar but been assault orientated I drop nids as well. DE fulfil all the requirements and I decided to jump into DE.

Bought 2 DE battleforce, a talos, 3 blisters of incubi, and traded 4 succubus/wyches.

Need 2 more boxes of ravagers , a raider and box of de corsairs for wyches conversion. I could field a 1.5k+ army.
